Er. P. S. Shirgure

Scientist (SG)(Soil & Water Conservation Engg)

He was born in June, 1964 in Bawakar Wadi a village in Akalkot tahasil of Solapur district. Completed secondary education from Chapalgaon and secured first rank in Secondary School Certificate Examination. He did his higher secondary education from DBF Dayanand College, Solapur with good academic record. He was having an agriculture background and his carrier interest was in Agricultural Engineering field. He received his B.Tech. (Agril. Engg.) degree from Dr. Annasaheb Shinde College of Agricultural Engineering, Mahatma Phule Agriculture University, Rahuri (M.S.) during May, 1987. He received ICAR merit scholarship during his graduation.

He also qualified GATE-87 with good percentile score. He completed M. Tech (Agril. Engg.) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (W.B.) with Water Resources Development and Management as a specialization in 1989. His project during M. Tech was ‘Multi-objective land and water management plan for a small watershed using an interactive approach- A case study’. He got scholarship from Ministry of Human Resource Development during his post-graduation.

After post graduation he joined Jain Irrigation Systems Pvt. Ltd., Jalgaon as a Project Engineer during April, 1989 and served for one year on one of the pilot sugarcane micro-irrigation project. During 1990 he joined Vasantdada Sugar Institute, Pune as an Agricultural Engineer and worked in Sugar Development Fund project for two years. He passed the Agricultural Research Service examination, 1990 and joined the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi in January, 1992 as a Scientist in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering discipline. He has done the Foundation Course Training on Agricultural Research Project Management from National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad. Since 1993 he is working at National Research Centre for Citrus, Nagpur as a Scientist. Presently he is in Scientist (Selection Grade). His area of research in citrus is soil and water conservation engineering, irrigation scheduling, water management, micro-irrigation system design and operations, integrated water and fertilizer management, moisture conservation, fertigation and auto-irrigation.

He has thirteen years experience in micro-irrigation and fertigation systems in citrus crops. One book, two technical bulletins, twenty five research papers, three extension bulletins and popular articles, fifteen reports and thirty abstracts in reputed journals, magazines and seminars are at his credit.
